When we were young, ‘imagine’ often manifested itself in dreams of fairy tales, made-up games or the pursuit of a far-fetched career as an astronaut or rockstar. Our imaginations were always the thing we had in common with one another and they knew no bounds.
Today, ‘imagine’ plays a different role in our lives. Often times, it falls to pragmatism and we succumb to the reality we already exist within. But think of all the amazing moments of self-reflection, innovation and potential breakthroughs when we give ourselves the freedom to imagine.
When we think about creating space, often times we look to the places where we live, where we work or even the room we create to do something -- anything. But sometimes, space is more than that. Rather than the physical space, we challenged ourselves and our guests to look a little deeper.
In a season where we slow down to celebrate a bounty of harvests with hayrides and pumpkins, it often takes leaving Portland’s boundaries to immerse yourself in the agricultural industry that creates the vibrant food scene in Portland. Nestled among the scenic farmlands of the Willamette Valley, Goschie Farms provided a rich backdrop for our Fall Table for Ten event. This hop farm, which has provided hops for some of Portland’s oldest breweries, has a heritage of harvesting hops for the last 130 years. On September 29th, our Table for Ten guests left the lights of the Rose City behind as we rambled to the heart of the Columbia River Gorge, where Renewal Workshop co-founders Nicole Bassett and Jeff Denby kicked off the evening with a tour of their factory situated in scenic Cascade Locks, OR.
After nine inspirational Portland Table for Ten dinners, we invited our guests back for a Table For Ten Alumni Night. Our PDX studio served as the location for our Alumni Night Happy Hour, complete with wine, hors d'oeuvres, and sweets.
Our guests sipped on bottles of 2015 Willamette Valley Pinot Gris, 2014 Chardonnay, and 2013 Sangiovese generously gifted from Local boutique winery, D’Anu Wines. Located in SE Portland, D’Anu Wines only uses fruit from vineyards that are either LIVE certified or sustainable farmed.
Portland is a city saturated in history, a love for craftsmanship and a passion for finding purpose in the forgotten, bringing us to Old Portland Hardware & Architecture for our Spring 2016 Table for Ten. Oregon native and Old Portland Hardware’s founder, Bret, told a behind the scenes story of history, passion and purpose with our guests. Our furnishings were provided by Commonwealth Rentals and decorated with antique pieces carefully selected from the showroom floor of Old Portland Hardware. Park Kitchen graced our palates with locally sourced blackened steelhead, beet chicharrones and double chocolate tart, while Bridge Nine Candles lit up our night by sending our guests home with their sustainable, handpoured Portland Mist candle.
