Most Wisconsinites think they know UW-Madison, but do they?
Sure, they can name Bucky Badger, Camp Randall and “Jump Around,” but when it comes to the impact and accessibility of the university, most residents finds themselves believing myths.
For years, many Wisconsinites may have believed that UW-Madison wasn’t affordable, was challenging to get into and often prioritized marketing efforts towards out of state students.
Recognizing these misperceptions and the opportunity to challenge them, UW-Madison hit the road to give Wisconsin residents a chance to ‘Get The Scoop’ in a myth-busting tour designed to enlighten and engage residents, communities and civic leaders across the state.
Partnering with the Wisconsin Alumni Association and the Wisconsin Foundation, Manifesto designed and deployed a tour that challenged these misconceptions while serving up scoops of delicious Babcock ice cream resulting in sweet surprises at every stop.
At each event, volunteers from the Wisconsin Alumni Association helped to serve free scoops ice cream while engaging visitors in a UW-Madison trivia quiz. Visitors included state representatives, families, alumni and potential students—not to mention anyone with a sweet tooth and a curious mind!
So what are the four biggest surprises?
Two-thirds of undergraduate applicants from Wisconsin are admitted to UW-Madison
It costs less than half as much for an in-state Wisconsin student to go to UW-Madison than it does to go to any other school in the Big Ten
It takes students an average of four years, one and a half weeks to graduate UW-Madison
Almost 80 percent of in-state UW-Madison students go on to live and work in Wisconsin after they graduate
Traveling throughout Wisconsin from June to October, the “Get The Scoop Tour” continues to serve up cold hard facts about UW-Madison and its statewide impact and accessibility.
